Speech Perspective
I used to think I was pretty good at communicating. Not just in terms of getting a point across, but in terms of actually being heard + understood. Like, good pronunciation - good writing skills.
But, there are moments where I don't know if the words I think I'm speaking and that I hear myself saying are actually what's getting across to the person I'm communicating with.
Mandi says that when it happens with her, it's her not paying attention.
Anyway, today, I've been on a wild goose chase. My mom asked me to get her medication at Walmart. So, I went to Walmart, and they said they didn't get any notification for it. I come back home, and my mom tells me to go to the clinic she went to. They said that they sent it, but upon double checking they did not get back a receipt. So, they would resend. So, I'm back home waiting for the filling - and then will go back to Walmart and try again. (By the way, I already went to Walmart at the beginning of the day to get some fly traps.)
It was during the front desk interaction at the clinic where today's miscommunication happened. I said, "It's okay, I'll wait 1to 2 hrs before I go and try to retrieve her prescription." (At least I think I said that.)
I figured they didn't understand what I said when they felt the need to tell me that I should wait before I go and try to Walmart. I then felt the need to reiteration and alter what I said. And the miscommunication was repaired. I know they're busy behind that desk; maybe that's the difficulty we're all working with trying to listen.
Update: Went again to Walmart. Prescription wasn't there. Called the clinic - and they said that it did get there, but the pharmacist had yet to approve it for fill.
